Defiance is the noblest of conceits;
It is the very seed of god in us.
FACING DARKNESS Into the darkness, again; we walk, making the path only our deepest Self knows to tread. It is not the dark we fear, rather, it is the belief that we are not enough. It is not the aloneness we fear, rather the belief that we might be for the gentle hearts around us, in the manner of being strong in the broken places, too much. The dark road teaches us again; we are resilience itself, we are the choosers be that we are not enough and too much. That we are the flame at the heart of the spirit of defiance, which we carry into the cave, into the womb, in as children, out as men. Rocco Jarman
This is a reflection of Vulnerability.
Adulthood is a crucible of trial, the initiation of which is never one and done, but the result of seasonal unfolding and the inevitable arrival of ever greater Need. This piece speaks of the sacred and primal spirit that burns inside the soul of men that carries us both into and through our trials.
We are as much our limits as we are our defiance and the heart of what it is we love and seek to provide, is what defines us all, as Men.
To be a husband and a father, is to choose the impossible task, to know we are not going to be equal to the task, but choose to try, and face the inevitable failure with as much strength and dignity as we can manage, holding onto the mantra, even as we rage quietly at the heart of our own private storms, our own words of self-acceptance and challenge:
“I am as still as I can be.”
